After School Parent Guide

Mission of the After-School Programs:

Rocky Run Middle School is committed to promoting active participation in extracurricular activities to support the academic mission and enrich the lives of students. Students who engage in these programs are more likely to develop positive attitudes towards school, achieve full academic potential, and become productive citizens. Students are encouraged to maintain a balance between their instructional studies, after school activities, and other outside interests.  The Middle School After-School Program is funded and implemented through a collaborative partnership between Fairfax County Public Schools, Office of After-School Programs, and the Fairfax County Government, Department of Community and Recreation Services.  

Step 1: Learn About the Program

Review the policies and procedures. 

Step 2: Register for Program

  • FREE to register.
  • Online Form.
  • Open to any currently enrolled Rocky Run Student.
  • Must be registered to attend or sign-up for an activity, includes staying with a teacher for academic help.
  • Opens Monday, July 31, 2017 at 7:00 AM

Step 3: Activity Sign-up

  • Once Registered - See Step 2
    • Activity sign-up opens on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 7am
  • You can start reviewing activity information on Monday, July 31. (Use links to left.)
  • How do I sign-up for Activities?
  • NEW this year!!! Activity Sessions 3 - 8 week sessions - ONE Sign-Up
  • ​Can I start a new activity?
  • Students must sign-up for every activity they would like to attend.
    • Activity Sign-up will be in of three ways and indicated on the description:
      • One Time for one day
      • One Time for an 8 week session:
        • Session 1: September 25 - December 1
        • Session 2: January 2 - March 9
        • Session 3: April 3 - June 1
      • Each day and time you would like to stay
  • Parents or Students can do their own signing up for activities.
    • Activities with a fee can be paid:
      • On the eventbrite website with a debit or credit card by parent.
      • During lunches by cash/check made out to Rocky Run Middle School, given to Mrs. Tyner.

We want you and your child to be on the same page each day of after-school.  Some suggestions/questions for your family:

  • ​Make sure you and your child know how they are getting home.
  • You can add your activities from eventbrite to your online calendar. Click here for directions on how to do this.
  • Here is a scheduling sheet to help you and your child determine what activities they would like to sign-up for. 
  • How will your child check-in with you on a day that they stayed after?
    • We have a phone in the front office
    • Personal cell phone - calling or text messaging you
  • Having a weekly check-in with your family about schedules, helps both of you know what your child's after-school needs are.
