Course Selection Quick Guide for Rising 7th Grade

The following is a quick guide for completing the course selection sheet. Click here for instructions on entering course requests online.

Select Required Courses (English, Social Studies, Science, Math)

  • Advanced Academic students select only Math level
  • General Education students determine honors enrollment
  • Math placements are made based on test scores and final grades

Select Electives

  • Select any yearlong electives (maximum 2)
  • Rank ALL semester electives in order of preference
  • Important: Students must rank semester electives even if they choose 2 year long electives

Parent Review, Signature and Change Requests

  • After parent review, students turn in the signed course selection sheet to their elementary school counselor
  • Students will then work with elementary school counselors to enter course requests online through SIS Student Vue.

Rising 8th Grade

The following is a quick guide for completing the course selection sheet.

February 10 and 11:

Counselors will meet with 7th grade teams to present a lesson on registration, course selection and elective choices. 

February 13-25

Counselors will meet one-on-one with students during Science to discuss courses and teacher input. At this time we will enter core courses online according to teacher recommendations. 

Students will also select electives

  • Select any yearlong electives (maximum 2)
  • Rank ALL semester electives in order of preference
  • Important: Students must rank semester electives even if they choose 2 year long electives

Counselors will email families once conferences have been completed.

Course selection sheets will be sent home detailing exactly what has been entered online.

Parents should review selections with students and send the course selection form back with requested changes.

Rising 9th Grade

January 9-16:

High school counselors will visit RR to meet with students and discuss course selection, diploma types and life in high school. 

January 8- Centreville HS

January 9- Westfield HS

January 10 - Fairfax HS

January 14- Chantilly HS

January 16- Rising Pride Fairfax HS Field Trip

January 29 - February 7

Counselors will meet one-on-one with 8th grade students during Science to discuss teacher input, course selection and advise. 

Course selection forms will be sent home with teacher input/recommendations. 

Counselors will email families once conferences have been completed.

Parents should review selections with students and send the course selection form back with requested changes.
