- A Night Divided: When the Berlin Wall went up, Gerta, her mother, and her brother Fritz are trapped on the eastern side where they were living, while her father, and her other brother Dominic are in the West--four years later, now twelve, Gerta sees her father on a viewing platform on the western side and realizes he wants her to risk her life trying to tunnel to freedom. From School Library Journal: "The novel's strong setting and tense climax will keep readers engrossed and holding their breath until the last page."

- Lines of Courage: The lives of five kids from different backgrounds intersect during World War I. Twelve-year-old Felix, from Austria-Hungary, sees Archduke Ferdinand killed and must flee with his mother. A German girl named Elsa helps them escape. British Kara works as an orderly on a Red Cross train, while French Juliette tries to find her family. Finally, Dimitri struggles at the Russian Front. As the war goes on, the teens' paths cross once again and they forge a friendship that helps them survive. From Booklist: "While the main characters may suffer loss, ultimately their stories are of hope and having the courage to stand up for what you believe is right, even in the face of the most dire circumstances. A riveting historical tale."

- Words on Fire: Forced to assimilate into Russian culture in the late nineteenth century, twelve-year-old Audra and her family suppress their Lithuanian roots and language, but Audra knows her family is hiding something more. When soldiers arrest her parents, Audra flees with a package they've given her and joins an underground resistance movement that she hopes will help her eventually rescue them. From Booklist: "Audra's story deserves a place on the shelf next to Lois Lowry's Number the Stars and Marcus Zusak's The Book Thief." (starred review)
