On Thursday, April 5, 2018, Rocky Run Middle School held our 3rd Annual "Battle of the Books" Team Competition to determine which teams would represent Rocky Run at the Annual Piedmont Region Battle of the Books Competition to be held at Marshall Middle School in Fauquier County, VA.

For those not familiar with the Battle of the Books program, there are 20 books which the students have been reading during this school year and from which all of the questions are taken.  The books consist of fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels.

The team competition is modeled after the actual regional competition and involves three phases:
1) 50 multiple-choice questions;
2) Three rounds of teams going head-to-head answering questions in which teams must correctly identify the book and author;
3) Quotation Round in which teams have to identify the book from which the ten quotations are taken.

The winning team was the team "Project 800K" coached by Ms. Rachel Sweeney.  The second place team was the "Bookie Monsters" coached by Ms. Laurie Simmons.

Due to the fact that Rocky Run has 48 students competing on 7 teams, Rocky Run is sending two teams to the Regional Competition: "Project 800K" and the "Bookie Monsters".

The other five teams which competed were:
Ramtasy Readers coached by Ms. Julie Tiss;
Ramtastic Readers coached by Ms. Aminda Davis;
Fire and Ice, coached by Ms. Katherine Bolton;
Book Markers, coached by Ms. Rachel Schuetz;
Book Eaters, coached by Ms. Fran Legendre;
The Battle of the Books Coordinator is Librarian, Ms. Rachel Grover.
