On Friday, May 12, 2017, Rocky Run's entire 7th grade took a field trip to Washington, DC. The purpose of the field trip was to see first hand the many monuments and memorials there which are based on historical events they have been studying this year. The field trip included stops at the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon, the Lincoln, Korean War and Vietnam Veteran's Memorials, the FDR and MLK Memorials, and Arlington National Cemeteray where students visited JFK's Eteranal Flame, and witnessed the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. However, the highlight of the day was the stop at the World War II Memorial, where the students met two "Honor Flights" of WW II, Korean and Vietnam War Veterans from Colorado and Utah. When the Veterans' buses pulled up to the curb at the WW II Memorial they were greeted by more than 150 cheering 7th graders who then formed a Rally Line that the Veterans passed through to get to the Memorial. The students had prepared signs with the names of the Veterans which was very well received by the Veterans as they looked and found their name held by a cheering student. Many pictures were taken of the Veterans and Rocky Run students together. Below are some pictures and you can find more pictures of the field trip to DC on the Rocky Run Flickr page at: //bit.ly/2nxBhWQ
