Information for 2019-20 Academic Advising and Course Selections
Dear Parent/Guardian of 7th and 8th Grade Students,
Happy New Year! Here at Rocky Run we hope the second part of this year is productive and exciting for your students.
In the next few weeks the second quarter will be ending (end of 2nd quarter is Jan.24). Please be sure you check Parent Vue to help your students meet all deadlines for projects, homework and schoolwork.
Also in the next few weeks, counselors will begin meeting with students to assist them in the process of choosing courses for their next grade level. This is a critical time. Teachers will give counselors recommendations for placement next year. Although the final decision about placement in honors or non-honors level classes is yours to make, we urge you to talk with your child’s teachers if your choice of course level differs from their recommendation. Your child’s teachers have some good insight into your child’s instructional strengths and areas for growth. Additionally, they work closely with High School teachers to know what will be expected of students next year.
Final decisions about staffing are made based on student choice of courses, so careful selection is urged. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s counselor for clarification if needed as you and your child work to choose classes for next year.
Please contact me for any questions regarding our Academic Advising Process.
Thank you,
Young Hong

Online Course Registration
This year, Rocky Run will be using the online course request feature available in StudentVUE. Starting mid-January, students will begin receiving information about curriculum and course selections for the 2019-20 school year. Once students have received information about course options from the Student Services department, they may login to StudentVUE and begin to select courses by clicking on the “Course Request” tab. This feature allows students to enter their courses prior to meeting with their school counselor, maximizing the time they have during individual academic advising.
We believe that parent involvement in course selection is very important. Parents or guardians are able to view their student’s course requests in ParentVUE as soon as students begin to enter them in StudentVUE. Parents or guardians are strongly encouraged to discuss course requests with their student(s) and to reach out to their student’s school counselor should there be any questions about courses entered or to request a change once selections have been finalized.
More information and details will be shared as we approach the academic advising season. Please reach out to your student’s school counselor with any questions you may have about this new process. We are excited to support our students with academic planning for the next school year.
