Interdisciplinary Teams Help Students Thrive

We have six teams, which allow students to make stronger connections to each other and to their teachers, strengthen our student support through our regular interdisciplinary team meetings, and create a strong community. We build strong connections through team events, helping all of our students to feel a sense of belonging at Rocky Run.

Rocky Run's After School Activities Have Something For Everyone

Rocky Run has a comprehensive after school program, with activities for all students to enjoy! We have 50 clubs and activities, with over 80% of our students participating! We have several award-winning academic clubs, including TSA, Model UN, Science and Math Olympiads. We also have unique offerings like the Retro Video Games Club, Cribbage Club, and Crochet Club!

Our Staff are Ramtastic!

Rocky Run has a dedicated and experienced staff, beloved by our community for their talent, passion, and expertise. 78% of our teachers have 10+ years of experience, and 39% of our teachers have been in education for 20+ years! 63% of our staff have been at Rocky Run for 5 or more years, and many of our staff members are FCPS alumni and Rocky Run parents! Nineteen staff members have been recognized for their excellence at the pyramid, region, or county level. We have fifteen AAP-endorsed teachers, and three National Board certified staff!

PBIS Supports Student Behavior

Rocky Run uses PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) to help our students meet our high expectations. We recognize students for exhibiting our RAISE attributes: Respectful, Accoutable, Inclusive, Safe, and Engaged. We hold weekly prize drawings for students, and each team recognizes two students per month as Rams on a Roll for going above and beyond and truly exemplifying what it means to be a Ram.

Serving Our Community is a Priority

Each year we host a Day of Service, partnering with Rise Against Hunger and many other community organizations to provide our students with hands-on service opportunities. This allows our students to give back to our community and learn about how they can be ethical and global citizens.

Community Engagement Connects Families to Our School

We host a wide variety of community engagement events to bring together our community. Each year we host a "Rams Rally", where students and families can get to know our school. During the year, featured events include Back to School Night, Fall and Spring Family Nights, and our Curriculum Night for rising 7th grade families.

We Take Pride in Our Student Athletes

Rocky Run has multiple sports teams: cross county, futsal, volleyball, basketball, and spring track and field. Over 200 students have participated in our athletics program and we are proud to have them representing Rocky Run!

Rocky Run Welcomes Military-Connected Students

Rocky Run is a Purple Star School, dedicated to serving our military-connected students and families. Each year we host events for Blue Star Welcome Week, Veterans’ Day, and Month of the Military Child to bring together our military-connected community members. 

Student Achievement 

Rocky Run's students consistently achieve high marks on state SOL tests, with 95% of our students passing their Math and Reading SOLs, and 91% of our students passing their Science SOL. Rocky Run students are challenging themselves with higher-level coursework, with 76% of our 8th grade students enrolled in Algebra I or above.

Our Renovated Building Provides a Great Environment for Learning

Rocky Run recently completed a renovation, creating many beautiful spaces for students to enjoy. In addition to a completely renovated and reimagined library space, all of our classrooms, the gymnasium, and the cafeteria were expanded and enhanced. Rocky Run also features amazing CTE classrooms for our students to gain hands-on knowledge, a TV studio to host our news show, and a lecture hall for larger groups of students to gather.
